Who wants a brand-spankin’-new #HTCOne smartphone? It’s time for a #TroopOneX Giveaway! (CLOSED)

Let’s start this week off with a bang, shall we?

I’m so excited to announce this mah-jor giveaway from our partner, HTC! I kicked off 2013 by participating in HTC’s #TroopOneX, a dynamic group of bloggers picked to testdrive the One X+ and use it to capture our everyday moments. Each week, we’re prompted with a challenge to generate content with our new smartphone and share it with our readers.

Since receiving my One X+ a few weeks ago, I’m pretty smitten. Its impressive 8MP camera shoots high-res photos and HD video, so I can leave my digital camera at home. It keeps me organized through my Google mail and calendars, and Google Play is packed with creative apps to keep me inspired (including Instagram) and social media apps that help me stay connected while I’m on the go. It’s been a powerful tool for my blog and my business.

Here’s where you come in: One lucky APP reader will win a brand new HTC One X+ — a supercharged Android smartphone that’s built for music and media — to capture your own great moments!

Check out the video below so the two of you can get better acquainted…

Ready to enter? Here’s the rundown:

1. One winner will receive an HTC One X+ optimized for AT&T. (Service is not included.)

2. This giveaway is open to US residents only, 18+.

3. All entries must be received by Friday, February 1st at 12:00pm EST.

4. To enter, leave a comment on this post and tell us how you’d use the HTC One X+!

5. One entry per person, please; all duplicates will be deleted.

We’ll select a random winner Friday afternoon.

Good luck!

weekend giveaway: love your “assets”

bisou bisou sweater dress, Decree utility jacket, and floral ASSETS by Sara Blakely Shaper Tights in Floral c/o jcpenney | Target boots (2009) | sock bun!

Okay ladies, imagine your beloved SPANX and your favorite patterned tights falling in love and having a super-shaper-legwear baby. It has happened, ya’ll. And it’s beautiful. Meet ASSETS® by Sara Blakely — pretty shapewear that flattens your tummy while simultaneously smoothing your thighs and rear, created by the lady who made butts and thighs better all over the world with SPANX.

jcpenney shipped me a pair, and then sent me on a little shopping trip to find a fall outfit to “show off my ASSETS®,” if you will. So I decided to put them to the ultimate test with a snug little sweater dress from bisou bisou — a style I usually wouldn’t dare wear without substantial leggings or skinny jeans underneath. The ASSETS® didn’t disappoint. Not only do they deliver on the shaping promise SPANX is famous for, they’re cute and comfortable, too! And — here’s the best part — available at a lower price point than the original, with prices ranging from $14 to $18.

Want to see for yourself? jcpenney is giving away one pair of ASSETS® by Sara Blakely Shaper Tights in floral to one lucky APP reader! To enter, leave a comment telling me what item of clothing you usually avoid, but may be brave enough to try with a little help from ASSETS®. No international entries, please. You have until Monday night at 11:59PM EAST to enter!

all those bowl cuts and stirrup pants were not worn in vain! for one of you at least :)

Ya’ll, your entries for the jcp back-to-school giveaway made. my. week. Year, maybe. I wish I could give every single one of you a gift card for baring your little fifth grade sartorial souls! It seems the majority of us suffered through elementary school with bad haircuts, lots o’ spandex, overalls, and all things florescent and sparkly.

But there can be only one winner. And in a random drawing, that winner was….

Brielle, I can’t even tell you all the times I ruined white outfits as a youngin’. In fact, I’m a little nervous even wearing these white jeans today. If only Tide-to-Go pens were invented when we were in school.

Thanks for entering, everyone! Keep your eyes peeled for future giveaways!

lovingeco giveaway winner!

I made this little video late yesterday afternoon before meeting up with Anne from Wobisobi for dinner, and I never got around to uploading it last night when I got home. {too much sangria, perhaps?} So a little late, but we have a winner!

Special thanks to LovingEco for hosting this great giveaway!

back-to-school giveaway from jcp!

Olsenboye belted print dress and foldover tote (c/o jcpenney) | Lucky Brand Emma ballet flats (Marshall's)

Even though my classroom days are behind me, I think the back-to-school season is the perfect time for a fresh start. I still feel a little gravitational tug toward retail during this time of year, and when I think of back-to-school shopping, I get butterflies in my stomach. There’s nothing better than those early August sprees and picking out the perfect school supplies and first day outfit. I still stock up on colorful pens, day planners, and cute notebooks, and I’ve replaced new backpacks with new messenger bags that will fit my Macbook, and lunch boxes with reusable coffee cups.

I was in elementary school in the 90’s, and floral baby doll dresses were my mini-fashionista apparel of choice. I usually paired them with keds and matching socks. Annnnd, probably a matching scrunchie or two. Oh, and usually shorts underneath {mandated by Mom} so as to remain modest and respectable while playing on the monkey bars during recess. Did I say mini-fashionista? Maybe in training. This Olsenboye belted print dress seemed like the perfect grown-up version of my old favorites, and a great transition piece for summer to fall.

Second chances are along the same lines as fresh starts, no? I love second chances. If you missed the first jcpenney giveaway a few months ago, you have another shot! They’re offering up another $50 gift card to a lucky APP reader, just in time for back-to-school!

Here’s how to enter:

Leave a comment with your best or worst back-to-school style memory. Be sure to include your email address or URL so I know where to find you if you win.

That’s it! You have until this Sunday, August 21st to enter. All entries must be received by 11:59PM EST.

Breakin’ the [Style] Law Giveaway

Last Saturday, jcpenney unleashed me on their local store with a gift card and a mission: create an outfit based on a style law that you love to break — or wish you broke more often. Several options went through my head, like “stripes and plaid are really bad!” or “thou shalt not wear mini skirts after age 25.” I hadn’t shopped in JCP in at least a year — besides a few trips to the in-store Sephora — and I wasn’t sure what I’d find, so I kept an open mind and decided to just wing it.

Walking in the store, I completely blanked out about the task at hand. I was instantly smitten with the adorable and affordable styles; especially in the MNG by Mango department. {Why hasn’t anyone told me about this line, by the way?!} After wandering around aimlessly for a good 20 minutes admiring the broad selection and making mental checklists of possible looks, I pulled it together and found these cute floral shorts… And I remembered all those episodes of What Not to Wear with Stacy and Clinton warning petite curvy girls all around the country that we should avoid dressing our bottom halves with busy prints; a lesson I clearly buried in my subconscious since I have a closet stocked with super-neutral bottoms. I decided it was time to buck the system, and built a look around those blossoming bloomers.

The beautiful thing about modern-day style is that all of those archaic rules don’t really apply anymore. You can’t wear white after labor day? There’s nothing more chic than a woman in a monochromatic winter white ensemble in the middle of December. Mixing bold prints and colors is tacky? Tell that to The Glamourai. The world of blogging and the democratization of fashion has changed the game about what’s “acceptable” or “stylish,” and opened the floodgates of some major creativity.

Okay little rule breakers, here’s where you come in: jcpenney and I want to know your favorite style law to break. If you’re a print mixing genius or you can’t get enough of black and brown ensembles, leave a comment and let us know! The more creative and original your rule breaking, the better. jcpenney will reward one lucky APP reader with a $50 gift card.

You have until this Friday, June 17th, to enter. All entries must be received before 11:59PM EST, and you must provide an email address or URL where I can contact you if you win. We won’t make you jump through hoops, just leave a comment with your favorite style rule to break — or one you wish you could get away with breaking — and you’re in! I’ll pick a winner at random next week.

P.S. Kendi is starting a new round of the 30 for 30 Remix today. After my disaster of a 30 for 30 last winter, I think I’m ready to get back in the saddle and try to redeem my remixing chops. This is my first outfit, but more on that later. If you want more information or want to join in the challenge, read more about it here.

>Giveaway! A Summer Vacation Staple

Floppy c/o D&Y
D&Y sent me this adorable floppy last week, and I literally squealed when I opened the package. For a split second, I thought about keeping it all to myself. But then I realized that this cute little  number needs to soak up some summer sun somewhere festive and fun; and there’s a good chance I won’t see far beyond the four walls of the flower shop through August.

So, here’s where you come in, lovely readers. One lucky lady is going to give this hat a new home and take it on the vacation it deserves.

To enter: Follow APP and D&Y on Facebook, and leave a comment telling me about your summer plans so I can live vicariously through your vacations and getaways by Sunday night at 9:00pm EST. I’ll announce a winner next week!

UPDATE: It seems there may be some issues with my comment system here on APP, so if you’re having trouble, leave your summer plans on the Facebook page and I’ll count those, too!

>Project ReStyle: The Lazy Girl’s Guide to Studding

I’ve had this genuine leather metallic clutch for about five years. In college, I worked at Express {awesome for my personal style, awful for my personal finances}. While there, I accumulated a massive amount of clothes and accessories…

Let’s just say, I owed them more money than they owed me at the end of every pay period.

This little beauty was a gift-with-purchase, and I shudder to think of how much I spent to “earn” it. Maybe that’s why it’s survived all the closet purges where so many other Express remnants met their fate.

Wanna see what I did to it?

Keep reading to find out!

All I used for this ReStyle was a sharp craft knife and two sizes of multicolored brads. I picked these up at Joann in the scrapbook section, but you could use the gold or brass kind available at any office supply store.
I [carefully] cut tiny slits into the clutch and through the inside lining, and poked the brads through. Since this bag has a lot of pleats and puckers, I just did a random scatter.
On the inside, I opened the backs of the brads to secure them in place. Instant “studs”!
Speaking of studs… As I was working, Quality Control showed up.
I think he approved.

Now that this clutch has a new life, I thought it may want a new home, too! So I’m going to pass it along to one of you. If you could use a little metallic leather and bright rainbow studding in your life {because, I mean, who couldn’t?} just leave a comment with a way for me to reach you before next Friday, 1/21/11 at 8:00pm EST. I’ll pick a winner the following Monday.

2 down, 50 to go!

>Shabby Apple Giveaway Winner!

>Closet Clean-Out Giveaway (CLOSED)

If you’re new around here, every once in a while I offer up an item from my closet in a Closet Clean-Out Giveaway. During my recent Summer Style Bootcamp experience, I realized I have a closet full of really nice things that I really don’t need (or use!). The next logical step in my radical self-help shopaholic therapy seemed to be to purge my closet of some of the superfluous stuff that’s piled up over the last year.

Since you all take the time to check in with my humble little blog, leave kind and inspiring comments, and generally are just awesome, I decided to pass these things on to you! This week I’m passing on these Stella & Dot Adrienne Chain Earrings.
To enter:
1. Follow A.P.P. on Blogger, Bloglovin’, or Facebook and leave a comment with your email address so I can contact the winner
2. For an extra entry, tweet about this giveaway with a link to the blog and leave an additional comment letting me know you did so (and leave your Twitter handle so I can follow you!)
3. For yet another extra entry, post about this giveaway on your own blog, and leave a comment with a link to your post

This giveaway will close on Friday (10/8/10) at 9:00 a.m. EST. To share the love, previous CCOG winners will not be eligible.
