Cheaper by the Dozen: 12 Summertime Drugstore Picks

summerpretty

Hello, gorgeous! Getting beautiful doesn’t have to break the bank. Here are a dozen of my favorite beauty steals, all available at your local drugstore for $13 or less.

Neutrogena body oil ($10.49): My go-to moisturizer when it’s hot and humid. I can’t stand the feel of heavy lotion melting off of my skin in the heat, but I hate dry itchy summer skin even more. I put this on in the shower in the morning, and it keeps my skin balanced all day. The sesame oil scent is really light, so it won’t interfere with your favorite perfume.

Revlon Top Speed nail polish ($5.99): I love bright, candy-colored nails in the summer. This comes in an awesome range of shades, dries quickly, and lasts several days — perfect for quick mani change-ups! I pick up a bottle or two every time I run into the drug store for toilet paper or toothpaste.

Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer ($8.99): This stuff is like self tanner for dummies. It’s pretty fool-proof; no streaks or stains, and you can build your ideal color by using it more or less often. I like to use it at night after I shower so I can wash it off the next morning {it does have a slight odor} and I use it about every other day. Not only does it give great color, but it is really moisturizing and keeps your skin super soft.

Clean & Clear Oil Absorbing Sheets ($5.79): Florida humidity is no joke, and it can make your makeup a virtual landslide on your face. These are perfect for absorbing extra oil and shine without disturbing your makeup.

Covergirl Natureluxe SPF 15 Lipgloss Balms ($7.49): My favorite balm that’s replaced all the lip glosses, stains, and lipsticks in my handbag. These come in all of the great bold colors that are so trendy for summer, are super-moisturizing, stay put for hours, and have the added benefit of sun protection. Coral 230, Anemone 225 (a bright red), and Hibiscus 215 are all in my daily rotation.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Blends Sheer Highlighting Blush ($12.99): A great buildable highlighting blush in that perfectly natural-looking summer flushed pink.

Physicians Formula Mineral Glow Pearls Bronzer ($10): I’ve tried a lot of bronzers in my day, and most of them leave my face looking ruddy or dirty. I picked this up on a whim because it was on sale, and it turned out to be a winner. It’s great for a subtle highlighting bronzer and looks natural on fair skin like mine.

eos Ultra Moisturizing Shave Cream ($4.49): I use this with my go-to razor, the Gillette Venus, for a super-close, super-smooth shave sans nasty razor burn. And in a pinch, this can be used to shave dry without the irritation.

Neutrogena Healthy Skin Enhancer ($11.99): I love sheer, unfussy makeup in the summer. There’s nothing worse than thick foundation sitting on your skin when the thermostat is in the triple digits. I use this in place of foundation, and seal it with a light powder for all-day coverage. Bonus: it’s packed with extra benefits like retinol and SPF.

Organix Renewing Moroccan Oil ($7.99): The sun can wreak as much damage on your hair as your skin. This protects your follicles from UV and heat styling damage, and makes your hair soft and shiny without the higher price tags of similar oils. I use it on my hair both wet and dry several times a week.

Neutrogena Naturals Purifying Pore Scrub ($7.99): I actually use this on my body more often than my face! I use it a couple of times a week in the shower to exfoliate all over, because good exfoliation is the key to getting the best results with self tanning products.

Neutrogena Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock ($9.99): Over the years, my mother has instilled in me a deep-seeded fear of sun damage {for which I’m grateful}. I use sunscreen every single day anywhere my skin is exposed to the sun – arms, legs, hands, chest, etc. This one is great for sensitive skin every day, and doesn’t make you smell like you’re headed for a day at the beach.

  1. I really want to try the body oil in the shower trick! Question: how does this work? Do you rinse it off? Towel dry it off? I have always wondered how body oil works best. I’d love to hear from someone who actually uses it.

  2. oh yes yes, i use generic baby oil for body oil all the time. it’s cheaper and i’m pretty sure it works the same. genius. and that jergen’s lotion? i love the smell of that. ha. weird? it’s one of my favorite smells.

  3. I have wanted to try the moroccan oil I might have to go buy it now. My favorites are Aveeno Clear Complexion daily moisturizer (moistures and helps prevent breakouts–and it doesn’t make my skin feel oily) and Aveeno Nourish+Condition Leave-In Treatment, which has been perfect to spray in my hair after a day in the sun.

  4. i love Neutrogena body oil – so light!! im a huge fan of drugstore bargains and you’ve listed some good ones – they are not as cheap in Australia though but still affordable! wish we had the Cover girl lip balms you talk about
they must be new as Ive never seen them?
I also use Morrocan oil for my hair – very pricey so im going to have to hunt for a cheaper alternative!

  5. I love these picks! I am obsessed with Neutrogena Body Oil! It smells lovely and is a great ‘first layer’ to almost any perfume I use. Also, I have been getting the Keratin treatment, which causes me to use “sulfate-free” shampoo and conditioner…which are quite expensive. Luckily L’Oreal just came out with their own Sulfate-Free line + a great leave-in conditioner! It’s perfect for our ultra humid Summers in NC!!

  6. I know this was posted a while ago, but I just picked up a couple of the Covergirl Natureluxe SPF 15 Lipgloss Balms (found them BOGO 50% off at Walgreens!), and I love love LOVE the Anemone!! Perfect shade for summer…which, let’s face it, it’s pretty much summer in Florida already. :)
