I saw this newsprint manicure over on The Daily Nail and thought it was adorable (especially for bookworms and word lovers like myself). I did a little Google detective work to see how to recreate it, and was surprised at how easy it is! All of the tutorials I found called for vodka or other clear distilled spirits, but we were fresh out. I used isopropyl alcohol instead, and it seemed to get the job done. I tried a quick and dirty version this afternoon to share it with you:

>I love anything nail-related… This is mind-blowing, fun, and I'm trying it!PS – You are awesome!
It works better if you soak the newspaper then place on your nail, instead of soaking your nail. :) Love this!

so fun! love it.
FREAKING AWESOME!!!!!! so imaginative ^_^
This is SO awesome! Can’t wait to give it a try…
Will any old documents work as well?
I’m pretty sure it has to be newsprint!
this didnt work … :/
Oh no! Sorry to hear that. It’s been a long time since I’ve done this, but I remember that it took quite a bit of patience and some trial and error :)
It worked really well for me! I tried it with volda. Lots great!
haha my friends tried this and it looked really cool :D
Funny, as I stumbled this, I was wearing my “Newsie Nails”
as I like to call them. Found a similar picture for inspiration
and went for it. Nice tutorial. :)
love this! does it come off with regular nail polish remover though?
I found it easier to wet the paper with the rubbing alcohol than to wet your nail.
Good idea!
this is so cool!! I was wondering if you can do this on top of like a regular colour nail polish? i think that the pop of colour could be cool
Probably! You’d just want something light enough that the newsprint will show on top.

Absolutely love this! Tried it with a white nail polish as a base coat and it looks stellar!
Fantastic! I love it! I can’t wait to give it a shot. I just have to go pick up some rubbing alcohol. =]
I tried this and it looks FABULOUS! I LOVE IT! Thank you so much! :]
Hey, thanks for the great idea! I just tried it out following your instructions and it turned out perfectly! I can’t wait to show them off! :)
I found this via stumbleupon and I just finished my new beautiful nails! This is a very easy DIY gorgeous way to dress up nails! I used Pure Ice- wild thing, a very springy green. Thanks for the post!!

This design is steller! You obviously know how to keep a reader amused. Between your wit and your videos, I was almost moved to start my own blog (well, almost…HaHa!) Wonderful job. I really enjoyed what you had to say, and more than that, how you presented it. Too cool!
I tried this, and as soon as I put on the top coat, the print smudged all to hell. Never try it. It was a huge waste of my time.

That is such an awsome idea!! Thanks x
that is adorable, great idea. i’ll try ..:)
I absolutely love my nails! The process is laughably easy and my nails look like a million bucks. I even used some larger text on my thumb, and it looks killer :) I used OPI’s “Getting Acquainted” as my base coat and a quick-dry top coat.
Also, I was curious, so I reapplied some newsprint to one nail, and the criss-cross pattern of the text looks awesome!

well try it 2morrow :D
I tried this and it looks soo cool!!! Thanks for the idea!
Nice!
amazing idea , really . the first minute i saw it isaid i need to do it now . well , i though of which words could i put , i decided to take some lyrics of lady gaga’s song – hair , these lyrics mean a lot to me . another thing i did the basic polish white … really thanks a lot for your creativity and everything <3
I think it would look better if you put the newspaper strips on vertically. It would elongate the nail and look better as well.
i did it and it was horrible i will never do this again it took so long and the ink residue got everywhere on my skin, yet the ink hardly showed up on my nails. yeah, it’s “creative” and looks cool but it definitely wasn’t worth it.

I dont get what is so amazing about having backwards words on your nails? Looks like u ruined a manicure by leaning on a newspaper. That looks HORRIBLE…why would anyone do that?? Looks trashy!
amazing ! thnks :)
This is such a cool idea! I want to try it. Do you mind if i reblog it? i’m new to wordpress, so i ddin’t know if it ws ok or not. I just wanted to ask you first. :)
THIS IS AWESOME! I am so going to do this! LOVE IT!
Thank you,

Wow,that is a hoot! I love books and words, too. Must try that!

Even if you have, please feel free to check out my blog.
I did the crackle manicure and loved it! Different and edgy.
Let me know what you think. I am going to follow you and look forward to future postings!
Always,
Diane
This is so cool! It looks best if you use the answers to crosswords I think. I like it better than words. Be sure to let the paint dry COMPLETELY before you put on the newspaper, and don’t press too hard. Good luck!
that is really amazing , i tried it and it was really nice >>>> i even translated the post to a different language and i posted it in another website so my friends could do it ( of course i gave you all the credit and i posted a link to your original post) …. thanks .. i really love it …:)
i already tried this it doesn’t work that good:(
Try putting the alcohol on after placing the newspaper on your fingernail. Kind of like water on a temporary tattoo.
Good idea! I’ll have to try that next time…mine got all warpedy.

I love this so much. I tried it recently and recieved so many compliments but it really depressed me when I had to take it off!
I StumbledUpon this and did it right then and there… and it worked!! What an awesome idea using things I already had around the house!
GET THAT AWAY FROM ME! YOU KNOW I’M ALLERGIC TO NEWSPRINT!
Found this on Stumbleupon, too…oh my GOSH it looks absolutely fantastic. Mine chipped and warped a little bit (that’s probably because I used old, cheap nail polish), but with that, it adds a faded, old-book feel to it. Hard to explain, but it looks fabulous. I did it on my fingers in a pinkish beige, and on my sister’s toes in a light coral-y nude. It looks fantastic! Thinking about doing a white base coat and transferring comic strips onto it… even if it were to be too big, it would add a pop-arty flair to it. Thank you SO much for making my nails look fantastic!
thanks so much for this!!!! it looks super cool and works perfectly!!
Love this idea!
Don’t know about everyone else, but I’m pretty intrigued by your ring! :P
i tryed it and it looks reallly good!!!!!!! thanks for the great idea!!!

I hardly ever paint my nails, because it just seems completely pointless, but this is a very cool and chic way to make a statement!
I am outraged! I used isopropyl alcohol and this did not work for me at all. After several unsucessful tries, I managed to get ONE NAIL CORRECT. I used several different articles of newspaper.
I just did this, it was super easy. I made a few mistakes by smearing the print when I put a clear coat over to complete the look but overall, I love it!
What an absolutely fantastic effect!! Think I know what I am doing to my nails this weekend.

Words on nails………..(/.-) really.?
This is great … the perfect manicure for a writer!
Reblogged this on 3Dscanning services.
A good Idea! thanks for sharing!!
And the perfect manicure for an elegant student, too!
By the way, Merry Christmas….!
This is a really good idea! I just wish I wasnt so hard on my nails. If it’s not gel nails, I can’t fool with it. Regular nail polish comes off in a matter of hours with me and my two kids LOL. I still will try it out though!
I really think about the reason why you named this particular post,
“>How-To: Newsprint Manicure | A Pretty Penny”. In any event I appreciated it!
Thanks a lot-Amie
Wooow wonderful nail art. Really nice idea…
It would show up better if you put on a coat of white nail polish. I’ve tried it like that before and it looks muh better :)
Good tip!
